Student Engagement, Experience, and Satisfaction

The Student Engagement, Experience, and Satisfaction, or SEES initiative at the Wayne State University School of Medicine is a student-centered initiative launched by the Office of the Dean to strengthen trust, communication and collaboration between students and the administration. Developed through a series of meetings and feedback sessions—including regular discussions with student leadership and fireside chats with the broader student body—SEES consolidates student concerns into one cohesive framework for action.

Through a collaborative analysis of Independent Student Analysis (ISA) data, student leaders and the Office of Dean created a dashboard of concerns tied to Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound (SMART) goals with measurable outcomes. Each concern is assigned a responsible stakeholder, and a monthly workgroup—comprised of students, faculty, and medical education leadership—monitors progress and ensures accountability.

Key features of the SEES initiative include:

  • A public-facing transparency dashboard tracking the status of student concerns
  • A user-friendly feedback submission form
  • Monthly update summaries to close the communication loop
  • Real-time updates displayed both online and across campus

SEES represents a unified and transparent approach to student advocacy, designed to improve the medical student experience through consistent engagement and responsive action.
