Clinical partners

Students work alongside exceptional physicians who teach and practice patient care. Wayne Health and Wayne Pediatrics physicians, as well as other teaching physicians at clinical location sites, mentor and strengthen physician-in-training skills. Each location offers unique experiences and opportunities.

  • Ascension St. John Hospital, Detroit

    Ascension St. John Hospital is a full-service 612-bed hospital with emergency care and a Level I Trauma Center. A high-volume hospital with more than 25,000 patient discharges a year, it is a destination for specialty care, including heart, cancer, stroke care, orthopedics and women’s health (including a birthing center and neonatal unit), a wide range of minimally invasive procedures using robotic-assisted technology, imaging and lab tests, and a dedicated inpatient rehabilitation cente all on one campus.

  • Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute

    The Barabara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, headquartered in Detroit, understands that beating cancer means bringing together the best. With 15 locations throughout Michigan and proudly a part of McLaren Health Care, Karmanos is the largest provider of cancer care and research in the state, and one of only 69 National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the United States. Cancer patients have increased access to advanced cancer care in communities throughout the state. This provides an extra level of comfort and peace of mind to patients and their families, knowing they can receive the best care locally. School of Medicine students learn and research with leading cancer professionals who are faculty members.

  • Beaumont Hospital, Dearborn (Corewell)

    Beaumont Dearborn (Corewell) is a major teaching and research hospital in Detroit-adjacent Dearborn with 632 beds, a Level II Trauma Center with more than 69,000 emergency visits and more than 24,000 inpatient discharges. The hospital is recognized for clinical excellence and innovation in the fields of orthopedics, neurosciences (Stroke Center of Excellence), women’s health (including a birthing center and Level I Neonatal Intensive Care Unit), heart and vascular specialties and cancer care.

  • Detroit Medical Center, Detroit

    The Detroit Medical Center has served the Detroit community for more than 150 years as a leading academically integrated health system with programs in oncology, organ transplant, cardiology, women’s services, neurosciences, stroke treatment, optometry, orthopedics, pediatrics and rehabilitation. The DMC has more than 2,000 licensed beds.

  • Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit

    Henry Ford Hospital is a state-of-the-art, 877-bed tertiary care hospital an education and research center located in Detroit’s New Center area. The hospital contains a Level I Trauma Center and is recognized for clinical excellence in the fields of cardiology and cardiovascular surgery, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopaedics and sports medicine, multi-organ transplantation, and the treatment of prostate, breast and lung cancer. It is the flagship hospital of Henry Ford Health, one of the nation’s leading comprehensive integrated health systems.
     

  • John D. Dingell Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Detroit

    Located in Detroit’s Midtown, the John D. Dingell Veterans Affairs Medical Center provides services to more than 330,000 veterans living in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb and St. Clair counties, The center provides primary care and specialty health services, including mental health services, oncology, treatment for spinal cord injuries, infectious diseases, traumatic brain injuries, post-traumatic stress disorder and more.

  • Michigan Healthcare Professionals

    Michigan Healthcare Professionals is a physician-led and administered organization whose mission is to develop improved health care systems that are high quality, efficient, coordinated, appropriate and cost effective.  With the future of medicine focused on population health and enhanced wellness-based care models, MHP’s network of highly trained physicians provides students with advanced training in community outpatient settings, where the majority of primary and specialty physician encounters occur. MHP providers are nationally known for several specialties, including oncology and radiation therapy.

    MHP’s guiding philosophy of physicians taking more responsibility for the outcomes of medical care and the overall well-being of patients, patient care protocols guided by well-defined clinical trials, an emphasis on preventive medicine and related wellness programs, and a team concept in which physician care is augmented by ancillary health care workers, aligns with the School of Medicine’s goal of developing and training a diverse student body through high-quality education, clinical excellence, pioneering research and investment in the community to prepare physician and biomedical scientific leaders who transform the promise of equal health into a reality for all.

    The School of Medicine’s affiliation with MHP broadens the medical student experience beyond inpatient settings and provides students with the opportunity to understand the continuum of care in a patient-centered care model.

  • Trinity Health Livonia/Trinity Health Oakland

    Trinity Health Livonia Hospital is a 304-bed hospital with an emergency department, Level II Trauma Center, inpatient and outpatient surgery, general medicine, imaging services, physical medicine and rehabilitation services, intensive care unit, cancer care, cardiovascular care, senior services and birthing and women’s services.

    Trinity Health Oakland Hospital is a 497-bed community teaching hospital, Level II Trauma Center and longtime leader in health care in Oakland County. Trinity Health provides comprehensive care including cardiovascular, stroke, orthopedics, obstetrics, gynecology and cancer care.
