Biography

Mrs. Loretta Robichaud is a University Counselor III and has 32 years of service at the Wayne State University School of Medicine. She has an extensive background in in urban mental health and crisis intervention issues and care. She provided clinical instruction to nursing students at Lafayette Clinic, and worked as a Clinical Nurse Specialist at Detroit Receiving Hospital in the Department of Psychiatry and Consultation Liaison Service. At the Psychiatric Center of Michigan, Mrs. Robichaud was appointed Director of Nursing and she served as a Nurse Consultant in the medical-psychiatric development and licensure unit at St. John Hospital. She has provided individual and group therapy. She served as a member of the Detroit-Wayne County Mental Health Board and as a Nurse Consultant for Geriatric Screening for Detroit’s Neighborhood Services Organization.

Since her tenure at the School of Medicine Mrs. Robichaud has focused on managing health and wellness when challenged with depression and anxiety and disability issues. She has served as AAMC Women’s Liaison Officer and as Director of Medical Student International Programs, and has served on the following committees: Promotions Committee, Curriculum Committee, and Admissions Committee. Mrs. Robichaud was instrumental in establishing the first medical student fitness center in Scott Hall. Her research interests include Post Traumatic Stress, Vietnam Era Veterans, medical students who face challenges with mental health issues and/or disabilities, and Medical Ethics. She enjoys spending time with her family, including cooking and gardening.
