Biography

In 2017, Dr. Booker joined the School of Medicine from the Academic Success Center to work as a Learning Skills Specialist in the Office of Learning and Teaching. Her commitment to student excellence is far-spanning at Wayne State University. In addition to serving as an adjunct instructor, Dr. Booker has also worked as an academic advisor, project manager, and data analyst in several departments across the university. In 2020, Dr. Booker was honored with the Osmosis Raise the Line Faculty Award for Outstanding Service to Students in Healthcare. Dr. Booker is responsible for providing students with supplementary academic strategies to support their performance in Segment 2 of the undergraduate medical education program.

Dr. Booker is a twice graduate of Wayne State University holding a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Education Evaluation and Research and a Master of Science degree in Library and Information Science. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in Forensic Science from Marygrove College. Her research interests center on program evaluations and institutional effectiveness.

 

Awards

Employment Security Status (ESS/Tenure) – February 2021

Awarded to academic staff members who have provided at least five years of service to the university and have shown exemplary work and committeemen to the university’s goals and mission. ESS is a contractual status granted by the University to members of the academic staff who have qualified through the Academic-Staff Employment Security System. As a member of the academic staff with ESS status, the terminal date of the academic-staff member’s appointment is eliminated.

Osmosis Raise the Line Faculty Award – December 2020

Awarded to medical education faculty members who inspire both students and colleagues. The awardees are responsible for training the next generation of healthcare professionals and are constantly helping to “Raise the Line” by increasing the capacity of healthcare systems worldwide.

Promotion – August 2020

Awarded promotion from Academic Advisor II to Academic Advisor III.

Academic Leadership Academy Fellowship Award – 2019-2020

Awarded by the Wayne State University Office of the Provost, to faculty and academic staff who aspire to lead and enhance the lives of WSU students, employees, and surrounding community. Program designed to help enhance fellow’s leadership skills by introducing members to community-based leaders and leadership experiences from the production and implementation of a year-long leadership project.

Bookstock Scholarship Award – 2012

Awarded by the Wayne State University School of Information Science – The Bookstock Scholarship Award is awarded to an information science student with high academics and who is committed to urban education and literacy.

Marygrove College IOTA Gamma Alpha Award – 2007

Awarded to scholars who exemplify the 3 C’s; Competence, Commitment, and Compassion in their educational career, and who maintains high academic standing and professionalism.

Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation – Gates Millennium Scholarship (GMS) Award – 2004-2016

Awarded to high performing high school senior students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and who demonstrate financial need. The GMS award is a full scholarship that pays unmet need for students from the undergraduate degree up to the completion of a doctoral degree.
