Biography

Assistant Professor of Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences Margit Chadwell, M.D., F.A.A.F.P., is the senior associate dean of Student Affairs and Career Development for the Wayne State University School of Medicine.

The director of the Year III Family Medicine and Continuity Clinic Clerkships for the last seven years, Dr. Chadwell also oversees the Year IV Family Medicine Sub-Internships and all departmental electives. She joined the School of Medicine as a voluntary faculty member in 1999. Her teaching responsibilities have included small-group instruction in the Clinical Medicine I and II courses, Family Medicine and Continuity Clinic clerkship precepting, and the Physical Diagnosis Course. She has received multiple teaching awards, and was recently nominated for the Excellence in Clinical Teaching Faculty Award.

After graduating from the WSU School of Medicine in 1994, Dr. Chadwell completed a Family Medicine internship in 1995, and a Family Medicine residency in 1997 at Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn, where she was named chief resident (1996-1997). She served as assistant director of the Family Medicine Residency Program at Oakwood Hospital (1997-2001) and as associate and interim director of the program at Oakwood Annapolis Hospital (2002-2010).

She serves as the faculty advisor for the Family Medicine Interest Group, the Robert R. Frank Student-Run Free Clinic, and the Christian Medical and Dental Association, and is a faculty member of the Gold Humanism Honor Society. In 2011, she received the WSU Campus Life Leadership Outstanding Student Organization Advisor Award. The School of Medicine’s Gold Humanism Honor Society presented her with the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award in 2012.

Her research and scholarly focus is on undergraduate medical education. She is co-investigator on the Bridges to Equity $1.37 million grant integrating public health concepts in the medical school curriculum and developing the M.D./M.P.H. dual-degree program at WSU. She is an elected member of the university Faculty Senate and serves on the WSU Student Affairs Committee.
