Biography
I am currently currently an emergency attending physician actively working on public health and trauma related projects. I have 14+ years of research experience and have my Master’s in Public Health, which has given me additional training and skills in research. Currently I am a Professor at Wayne State University (WSU), a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM), the American Public Health Association (APHA) and the American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA). I am the immediate past chair the WSU School of Medicine Women in Medicine and Science Advisory Committee. For the last four years I have been run the ACEP Research Forum, with last year as Chair and in 2024 the immediate past chair. I have reviewed abstracts for more than 14 years for four different conferences and regularly review for ACEP and APHA. I have served as an abstract moderator for many local, regional and national conferences (ACEP). Furthermore, I have judged research at the local and national level AMWA.
I spent 7 years working primarily for the NETT Neurological Emergencies Treatment Trials. Initially as site sub-Investigator and quickly working my way up to multi-site principal investigator. I was principal investigator for 3 NETT trials including ESETT- Established Status Epilepticus Treatment Trial at three sites, Detroit Receiving, Sinai-Grace, Children's Hospital of Michigan, which is also a PECARN site.
Recently I was the site PI of an NIH funded project entitled Adaptive Interventions to Reduce Risky Drinking and Violent Behaviors among Adolescents (SafERteens M-Coach) looking at behavioral issues in teens and young adults. I have worked on numerous behavioral health and traumatic injury studies including the African American CRASH study in which psychological outcomes of African Americans after motor vehicle collisions was studied. I have also collaborated on studies evaluating the sex differences in pain and gene expression following motor vehicle collisions.
