Applicants sought for Global and Urban Health and Equity Scholars Program

The Wayne State University Global Health Alliance is accepting applications for the 2025-2027 Global and Urban Health and Equity Scholars Program.

The program is free and open to any graduate-level student or faculty who would like to learn more about global health and health equity. The program also provides career and research mentorship in global and community health; promotes scholarly activity in global health education, public health, research methods and innovative service delivery; and education about health disparities and equity.

The application deadline is July 31. Apply online here.

In the two-year seminar series offered by WSU’s Global Health Alliance, learners gain comprehensive knowledge and skills surrounding global health through local and international educational opportunities that focus on the care of underserved and vulnerable populations.

Designed to strengthen patient care with a dose of cultural humility, GLUE's goal is to provide greater awareness of cultural and socioeconomic factors, and emphasize the importance of communication skills in medical practice. The program involves seminars, group learning, mentoring, and international and local projects, and is based on Consortium of Universities for Global Health core competencies.

Developed by the WSU Global Health Alliance, the Scholars Program trains leaders who set national and international standards of best practice in global and urban health education, service, research, policy and advocacy. Graduates become pioneers who lead transformational and innovative solutions to international and domestic problems like those faced in addressing community infectious disease and global pandemics.

To obtain a GLUE Scholar certificate, scholars must participate in a global or local capstone project designed within a mentorship framework that spans a minimum of six-month preparation and that results in a scholarly project or publication.

Scholars may include medical students, graduate students, faculty and working health care professionals. Enrollment is free and open to any affiliate of the Wayne State University community. Applicants must have at least a bachelor's degree.

Classes begin Sept. 4.
