Find your community, build your future

At Wayne State University School of Medicine, we understand medical school is more than just coursework—it’s about building connections, finding support, and growing as a future physician. That’s why every student is welcomed into one of eight Warrior M.D. Houses, a learning community designed to foster collaboration, mentorship, and professional development.

Why learning communities matter

Medical school is demanding, but research shows that students who participate in structured learning communities are more engaged, academically motivated, and better prepared for the challenges ahead. Our Warrior M.D. Houses provide a built-in support system that follows you from your first day of orientation through graduation.

Each House serves as a tight-knit group within our larger student body, helping you:

  • Form lasting connections with peers, faculty mentors, and upper-year students.
  • Gain essential career coaching to navigate the transition from student to physician.
  • Participate in peer mentorship programs that provide guidance through your medical journey.
  • Engage in meaningful discussions on health disparities and real-world medical challenges.

Coaching and mentorship that makes a difference

Warrior M.D. Houses are at the heart of our Wayne Trained Initiative and WSUSOM Coaching Program, ensuring every student receives personalized support and professional development. Through these initiatives, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Train with a Family Medicine physician in your first two years to gain early clinical exposure.
  • Work closely with a dedicated faculty coach, receiving both one-on-one and small group mentorship.
  • Join cross-class mentorship meet-ups, where M1s, M2s, M3s, and M4s connect and learn from each other.

A support system that lasts beyond medical school

Your Warrior M.D. House isn’t just about medical school—it’s about building lifelong connections that will continue into residency and beyond. From social events and service projects to academic meet-ups, your house will be your home base for support, collaboration, and success.
