Costs and payments

Tuition

Tuition and student service fee are charged on a per-credit-hour basis. The majority of students will register for, and be assessed for, 50 credits per year. Various off-track students (e.g. modified students, those taking leaves of absence) will register for variable credit hours. Students taking more or less than 50 credit hours will be assessed accordingly.

Installment payments

WSU Installment Payment offers a low cost, flexible system for paying educational expenses out of current income through regularly scheduled payments over a period of ten (10) months. Copies of informational brochure and application are available in the Records and Registration Office.

      1. Students must be assessed tuition and fees for the system to calculate payments.
      2. There are 3 enrollment periods and payment periods.
      3. Students can enroll in the plan any time after registering for classes.
      4. All plans have 10 monthly payments.
      5. An enrollment fee is required to be paid prior to enrollment.
        • Enrolled students will receive a promissory note and a TILA form indicating amounts and due dates at the time of enrollment.
      6. The system will determine the payment due date based on the date the student enrolls in a plan.
      7. Payments received on the student account prior to enrollment will be used in the calculation to determine the monthly payment.
      8. Payments received after enrolling in the plan will be credited to scheduled payments.

Financial aid recipients

Financial Aid Recipients will have tuition, omnibus fee, student support fee, fitness center fee and health insurance premium waived at registration if they have submitted all require information to the Office of Student Financial Aid.

YOU WILL BE EXPECTED TO PAY TUITION AND FEES AT REGISTRATION IF YOUR FINANCIAL AID REQUIREMENTS ARE NOT COMPLETE.

Check your aid requirements in Academica

You MUST complete all requirements at least TWO WEEKS prior to your registration date. The financial aid office staff will then notify the Records/Registration Office that your tuition and fees can be “deferred” at registration. For a full list of requirements, please check your requirements in Academica.

If you are the recipient of a full-tuition scholarship through the school, among other non-tuition charges, it DOES NOT cover omnibus fee, student support fee, fitness center fee, or other charges. You will be required to pay non-tuition charges from another source.

If you are the recipient of a scholarship through an external provider such as the U.S. Military or National Health Services Corp, you must submit documentation to the Financial Aid Office upon initial acceptance to the program. These programs cover tuition fees. Your tuition fees will be deferredat registration and the University will bill your third-party provider.

Title IV Authorization

Under federal law, the University must receive your “authorization” to cover fees other than tuition, registration, omnibus, fitness center and contracted University room and board fees. To authorize the University to deduct health insurance charges you must complete the online Title IV Authorization Form.If you do not complete this Authorization Form, the University must assume that you wish to “restrict” use of your financial aid funds.

Estimated cost of attendance

The Cost of Attendance reflects the average, estimated expenses to attend medical school at WSU for one year. Included costs are for the student only.

Tuition and fee charges

Tuition and the Student Service Fee are charged on a per-credit-hour basis.

      • Full-time: 24 to 50 credits
      • Halftime: 12 to 23 credits

The initial Cost of Attendance assumes 50 credit hours for full time students, and 23 credits for modified/halftime students. Adjustments will be made to reflect actual enrollment after registration.

Health insurance coverage

Health insurance coverage is mandatory for all medical students, and proof of coverage must be submitted to the WSU School of Medicine (SOM) Office of Records & Registration at the time of registration. Students may purchase the health insurance plan offered through the WSU SOM or submit proof of coverage through a parent/spouse. Health insurance premiums may be added to the cost of attendance on an individual basis.

Please note that the cost of attendance is based on the number of months that you are enrolled in coursework and/or rotations.

Exceptions to cost of attendance

Necessary educational expenses such as daycare costs and the one-time purchase of a computer, may be added to the cost of attendance if incurred during the academic year. Students must request consideration for a cost of attendance increase by submitting a written request and supporting documentation of paid expenses to the Office of Student Financial Aid. Submission of an appeal form does not guarantee a change in your status.
