Biography

Mr. Kirk Guanco is a University Counselor III and joined WSU SoM, Office of Student Affairs in May 2022. Mr. Guanco spent the last 9 years working for WSU Counseling and Psychological Services providing individual therapy to students to address issues with stress, anxiety, depression, substance use and grief and loss. Prior to coming to WSU, he worked at Easter Seals as a Clinical Supervisor, supervising case managers working with severe and persistently mentally ill adults with substance use disorders. Mr. Guanco obtained his MSW from the University of Michigan School of Social Work. He has training in many therapeutic modalities such as Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectal behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness. Mr. Guanco obtained his certification as a Certified Advance Alcohol and Drug Counselor in 2015. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, watching Michigan Football and playing golf.
