Dr. Badr named to American Board of Internal Medicine’s Board of Directors

The Wayne State University School of Medicine today announced that M. Safwan Badr, M.D., M.B.A., has been appointed to the American Board of Internal Medicine’s Board of Directors, effective July 1.

ABIM Board members set the future direction, strategy and goals for the organization, and develop and maintain important partnerships in the health care community.

“It’s truly an honor that Dr. Badr’s expertise and leadership is being recognized by ABIM in this way,” said Jack D. Sobel, M.D., dean of the WSU School of Medicine. “All of us know how deeply Dr. Badr is committed to lifelong learning, and we look forward to supporting him in this important pursuit.”

The ABIM Board is comprised of physicians with a variety of practice experience as well as members of the inter-professional health care team and public who provide important insights into patient care. All ABIM Board member physicians participate in the Maintenance of Certification program, and all members collaborate across the medical community to set strategy, lead innovation in assessment methods and explore opportunities to enhance continuous professional learning.

A professor of Internal Medicine, of Physiology and of Biomedical Engineering, Dr. Badr is the chair of the WSU Department of Internal Medicine, specialist-in-chief for the Detroit Medical Center and a staff physician at the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center in Detroit, Mich. He is a resident of West Bloomfield, Mich.
