Students, faculty and staff are invited to attend the kickoff planning meeting Feb. 28 for the Wayne State University School of Medicine’s participation in the March of Dimes’ annual March for Babies.
The meeting will run from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Room 1328 of Scott Hall. Melissa Greer, state director of the March for Babies, will give a presentation and a complimentary lunch will be provided.
Thousands of families and business leaders will join together in the March of Dimes’ annual March for Babies at 9 a.m. April 28 on the campus of Wayne State University. The walk route will include a major station at the School of Medicine-Detroit Medical Center campus. The March for Babies is the nation’s oldest walk fundraiser, raising money for the charity and promoting its mission to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
Last year, the School of Medicine saw a record number of team walkers raise more than $10,000 for the March of Dimes.
The School of Medicine chair for this year’s walk is Dean Valerie M. Parisi, M.D., M.P.H., M.B.A. This year’s co-chairs are Vice Dean of Education Maryjean Schenk, M.D., M.P.H., M.S.; Vice Dean of Research Bonita Stanton, M.D.; Associate Dean of Maternal, Perinatal and Child Health Sonia Hassan, M.D.; and Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology Elizabeth Puscheck, M.D.
