Dr. Jackson, Assistant Dean for Basic Science Education, joined the School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor of Immunology and Microbiology in 1989. His research has focused primarily on E. coli toxins. Dr. Jackson’s strong interest in technology-enhanced medical education was a key factor in the school’s 2002 pilot of personal digital assistants as an educational tool to students. He has been the course director for the sophomore medical immunology-microbiology course since 1998 and the graduate microbial pathogenesis course since 1991. He was appointed Assistant Dean in 2005. Dr. Jackson has served on bacterial pathogenesis study sections and editorial boards, and as a consultant for foodborne illness cases.
