Dr. Grossman, Professor of Molecular Medicine and Genetics, and the Henry L. Brasza Director of the Center for Molecular Medicine and Genetics, studies the function and evolution of mitochondrial genes. He received a B.S. degree in chemistry from the City College of New York and a Ph.D. degree in genetics and biochemistry from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University, where he studied the replication and structure of yeast mitochondrial DNA with Julius Marmur. He was named a Jane Coffin Childs Fellow at the California Institute of Technology, working with Jerome Vinograd on mammalian mitochondrial DNA. He has been a member of the Wayne State University community for more than 20 years, previously serving as Associate Director and Interim Director of the center.
