“Federal Taxes: The Rest of the Story” presented by Mr. Michael Palazzolo, CPA
Just in time to file taxes and complete the 2012-13 FAFSA – this session will explain who should file, differences between long and short tax returns, adjustments to income, itemizing deductions, and tax credits.

“Home Mortgages, and Buying Versus Renting” presented by Physicians Loans
This session will review credit criteria, how much home to buy, industry trends in real estate, and tips on applying/obtaining approval.  

Financial Literacy Sessions are open to all medical students. Pizza/pop will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Applicants must also complete the 2012-13 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov
Recipients will be notified by the School of Medicine Scholarship Committee in the late spring/early fall.

2012-13 FAFSA FILING REMINDER
The Free Application for Federal Student (FAFSA) for 2012-13 is now available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.  All students anticipating federal or institutional financial aid for the 2012-13 academic year must submit this form.  The recommended filing deadline is March 1, 2012 but the application will remain available throughout the 2012-13 academic year.

It is recommended  that federal tax filers submit their 1040EZ, 1040A or 1040 to the IRS in advance of completing the FAFSA.  IRS data retrieval  to populate the income sections of the form will be functional in late January/early February
