2008-09 COST OF ATTENDANCE

The Cost of Attendance reflects the average, estimated expenses to attend medical school at WSU for one year.  Costs cannot be added for expenses incurred by a family member other than the student, unless the student incurs daycare costs necessary for continuation in medical school.  See “Exceptions to Cost of Attendance” below.

Health Insurance Coverage:

Health insurance is mandatory and enrollment forms or proof of coverage must be submitted at time of registration.  Insurance premiums will be added on an individual basis to the Cost of Attendance.

The total amount of a student’s financial aid award cannot exceed the Cost of Attendance.

Exceptions to Cost of Attendance:
Necessary expenses such as daycare costs, emergency car repairs, medical/dental bills not covered by insurance, and the one-time purchase of a computer, may be added to the Cost of Attendance if incurred during the academic year.  Students must request consideration for a Cost of Attendance increase by submitting a written request and supporting documentation of paid expenses to the Office of Student Financial Aid.  Please go to our “Forms” page to download a “Cost of Attendance Increase Request” form.

* Tuition reflects an estimated 3% increase over 2007-08 rates.  Actual rates will be set by the Wayne State University Board of Governors by summer 2008.  If tuition is less than estimated, the Cost of Attendance will be adjusted and financial aid second disbursements will be lowered.
** Exam Fees for USMLE Step 2 CK and Step 2 CS will be included in the M3 Cost of Attendance beginning for the Class of 2010.  The Class of 2009 will be the last M4 class with these fees to accommodate the transition.
