Antonia Abbey, PhD, associate professor of community medicine, has been honored with Wayne State University’s Outstanding Graduate Mentor Award.

Gyula Acsadi, MD, PhD, assistant professor of pediatrics and neurology, was awarded by the American Academy of Neurology’s program committee for having one of the best presentations at the academy’s annual meeting. He presented a paper on “Adenoviral Mediated GDNF Gene Transfer in SOD 1 Transgenic Mice.”

Adeel Ahmad, year I student, has been selected by the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry as a 2000 Jeanne Spurlock Clinical Fellow.

Anthony Alcantara, MD, assistant professor of radiology, and Huang Nguyen, MD, were awarded a certificate of merit from the American Roentgen Ray Society for their Web-based program that allows users to learn cross-sectional anatomy from CT and MRI images.

Shalini Chandra, year III student, received an American Medical Association Foundation Leadership Award at the association’s annual National Leadership Development Conference. The awards were given to medical professionals and students of South Asian origin, who exhibit outstanding academic achievement, community service and leadership.

Linda Hazlett, PhD, professor and chair of anatomy and cell biology, was one of 26 faculty members honored during WSU’s Women’s History Month celebration.

Gloria Heppner, PhD, associate chair of internal medicine, was one of 26 faculty members honored during WSU’s Women’s History Month celebration.

David Kessel, PhD, professor of pharmacology, was honored with Wayne State University’s Distinguished Graduate Faculty Award.

Jeanne Lusher, MD, professor of pediatrics, was one of 26 faculty members honored during WSU’s Women’s History Month celebration.

Tom McCullough, coordinator for the year II psychiatry course, was honored with the LAMP Award, presented by students to their favorite teacher.

Bonnie Sloane, PhD, professor and chair of pharmacology, was one of 26 faculty members honored during WSU’s Women’s History Month celebration.
