The Services for Treatment in Early Psychoses (STEP) is a clinical research  program which seeks to advance innovations in discovering the causes, treatments and preventive approaches early in the course of  mental illnesses such as schizophrenia. The STEP clinic offers timely and comprehensive assessment, and  integrated treatment for persons experiencing their first episode of psychosis. Supported by NIH, foundation and state grants, a number of research initiatives are under way to develop and implement Best Practices models of care, as well as to conduct research into the pathophysiology and causation of schizophrenia and major affective disorders. STEP clinics and allied research programs are located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Detroit, Michigan.
