ABOUT US
UPC is the Clinical Service Group for the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences, operating under the Dean of the School of Medicine guidelines. This organizational structure is consistent with the other specialty groups representing the School of Medicine, however, it is a unique structure within the health and human services field offering opportunities as well as restrictions in what can and cannot be done from a clinical and operational standpoint. Moreover, current planning by the School of Medicine and the organizing entity for the Clinical Service Groups—University Physicians’ Group (UPG) is working towards a plan that would combine all the clinical service groups into one organizational entity. What does this mean to UPC? Perhaps little at this time as numerous organizational changes made over the past couple of years has positioned UPC to move into this single entity. Administrative staff has been reduced anticipating efficiencies to be gained with a unified practice plan, additionally clinical services have been estructured to reflect faculty driven initiatives. In continuing to work to establish faculty driven programs, services are consolidated at Livonia and Jefferson for outpatient services and at Detroit Medical Center (DMC) facilities to cover inpatient and related hospital based services. New programs are being explored with faculty that incorporates components of education/training and or clinical research. UPC is an organization entity
which enable the provision of
services that provide teaching
cases for Residents and Interns
and delivery of innovative
services to establish evidencebased
practices, or to evaluate
established service
methodologies to evaluate
effectiveness. In this regard the
role of the clinical scientist is
promoted, a role in which
hypothesis and research
questions are constantly posed
and evaluated regarding the
treatment provided to
individuals.
UPC houses a mix of
programs and services, ones
established to serve the of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences. |
