Statement of Interests

I am interested in the fields of substance abuse health services and emerging trends with part of my efforts reserved as epidemiologist and biostatistician for the division. To monitor emerging trends, I am the Detroit representative to the National Institute on Drug Abuse’s Community Epidemiology Work Group. Locally, I am a member of the Wayne County Fentanyl Work Group and the Overdose Prevention Work Group, whose members include academia, criminal justice, mental health, substance abuse and public health officials. In health services research, I have examined diffusion of therapeutic approaches and impact of multiple funding requirements, such as criminal justice, on programs. Recently, my interest has expanded to include ethnic differences in treatment utilization, especially by Arab Americans.
