Jefferson Avenue Research ClinicThe Jefferson Avenue Research Clinic, home of the Department's Clinical Research Division on Substance Abuse, is located at 2761 E. Jefferson Avenue, in Detroit Michigan. This stately refurbished building is home to a number of specialized treatment and research programs in the area of substance abuse. Programs are underway for smoking cessation treatment, opiate addiction treatment, adolescent dual diagnosis treatment, and more. For further information call 313.993.3964. Laboratory Facilities: The Clinical Research Division on Substance Abuse (CRD-SA) has as its primary location a newly renovated building on East Jefferson located 5 miles from the Wayne State medical campus. It is part of a complex housing the DPBN's largest outpatient facility, the University Psychiatric Center-Jefferson. The CRD-SA has two floors with approximately 12,000 square feet. The Human Pharmacology Laboratory has 3,000 square feet. The laboratory consists of a large recreational space for the evaluation of drug effects in a social context, six test rooms, two larger test rooms equipped for physiological studies, a computer control room and monitoring room. A state-of-the-art computer database system allows efficient recruitment and data management. Office space exists for graduate students, medical students, technicians and nurses. Clinical Facilities: The medical/intake unit and clinic have approximately 6,000 square feet for smoking cessation, cocaine dependent, and opioid maintenance patients and research participants. It includes a dispensary, examining and testing rooms, facilities for observed urine monitoring and analysis, and office space for the medical director, clinical director, and other medical and clinical personnel. The clinic has a reception area, individual and group counseling rooms, and a day room. In addition to our own excellent facilities, the WSU DPBN includes inpatient beds at Detroit Receiving Hospital which is used for sleep monitoring, and neuroimaging facilities (including PET and functional magnetic resonance imaging) at Children's Hospital. Several faculty members have joint appointments at the Detroit VAMC, providing access to their new, state-of-the art hospital facilities.
