ORA Research Development Services (RDS) provides DPBN faculty and trainees with pre-award assistance in the preparation and management of research support. Services include assistance on research proposals submitted to federal agencies, private sector companies and foundations, drug companies, and intramural support Research Development Services will search for and identify potential funding opportunities for individual research faculty (based on individual research interests) as well as matching program announcements/ request for proposals to the Basic Science Division Laboratories and the Clinical Research Divisions and Programs.

There already exists within the ORA an extensive catalogue of federal and private sector research sources particular to psychiatry and the neurosciences, and electronic searches are also performed. The ORA can supply appropriate guidelines, application materials, and serve as liaison to external agencies and internal administrative offices. Preparation of budgets and other templates are provided, and the typing of the proposals and the coordination of site visit logistics is available upon request.

The ORA coordinates the internal scientific review through the Departmental Review Board, and assists in the routing of the IRB protocol applications. The internal routing, signature acquisition, duplication and distribution is coordinated through RDS, and assistance is provided in the preparation of letters of support, biographical sketches, other support, and other boilerplate information. Individual research proposals, subcontracts, transfers, program projects (PPGs) and specialized centers (SCORs), as well as clinical studies, are samples of the types of grants developed through the ORA.
