Outpatient Psychiatry

Clinical Overview
The Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic treats adult (18+) patients in an ongoing manner in an ambulatory setting.  The patients are voluntary and come from diverse racial, ethnic, religious, and socio-economic backgrounds.  Their diagnoses cover a wide variety of DSM IV conditions. 

The Outpatient Clinic utilizes a multi-disciplinary approach to treatment care.   An array of mental health care professionals and modalities are available to treat the patient.  Medication management, individual and group psychotherapy, psycho educational seminars and case management services may be utilized.

Treatment planning conferences, afternoon report and twice-weekly case discussions/ seminars are ongoing components of the unit.

Treatment Team Composition
The Outpatient Clinic utilizes attending physicians, resident physicians, nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, and case managers in varying aspects of patient care.  Medical students are also often present.

Education and Training
Wayne State University (WSU) psychiatry residents rotate onto the Outpatient Clinic as part of their training regimen.

The Outpatient Clinic serves as a training site for the WSU Medical School Year III clerkship in psychiatry.

Nursing and physician assistant students from a variety of programs also rotate onto the clinic as part of their education.

Clinical faculty of the clinic are actively involved in research projects and use the site as a base of operations.
