Overview
The
Crisis Clinic serves as the psychiatry emergency room for Sinai Grace
Hospital. Acutely ill psychiatric
patients are evaluated, treated and linked to providers for ongoing care. Interaction with care providers occurs frequently.
Patients
are typically initially seen in an emergent walk in basis.
Follow up appointments are usually scheduled and provide a bridge
to ongoing care.
Patient
diagnoses cover a wide variety of DSM IV conditions.
Treatment
Team Composition
The Crisis Clinic utilizes attending physicians, resident physicians,
nurses, and social workers in the treatment of patients.
Medical, nursing, and physician assistant students are often in
attendance.
Education
and Training
The Crisis Clinic serves as a training site for the Wayne State University
(WSU) Medical School’s Year III clerkship in psychiatry.
WSU
psychiatry residents can choose to rotate onto this unit as an elective.
WSU
family practice residents often rotate onto this service as part of their
training regimen.
Nursing
and physician assistant students from a variety of programs rotate onto
this unit as part of their education.
