Initiative for Maximizing Student Diversity (IMSD) formerly known as Minority Biomedical Research Support Program (MBRS) was instituted at Wayne State University in the Fall of 1978. It is a research program designed to increase the number of African Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans and Pacific Islanders in the field of biomedical sciences.

Freshman undergraduates with a G.P.A. of 3.0 or above and graduate students after being accepted in a graduate program are eligible to apply. Undergraduate students earn up to $ 7, 134 per year as student assistants in a research laboratory. Graduate student stipend range from $ 17, 500 - 18, 500/yr plus tuition. Travel support provided to attend scientific meetings. For more information
