Dr.
Felix T. Hong has been with Wayne
State University since 1977. He served as an assistant professor for four years at The
Rockefeller University after he received his Ph.D. degree in Biophysics there. His
research interest centers around basic research in membrane biophysics and
photobiology. Since he joined Wayne State University, he turned his research effort to the light- induced molecular processes in bacteriorhodopsin, and other related biopigments. He also extended his research interest to include molecular electronics, biomolecular computing and artificial solar energy conversion. His research in biocomputing also led him to the topic education and science philosophy. He established the Molecular Electronics Track for the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society in 1988, and served as the Track Chair for four consecutive terms until he stepped down in 1992. He has also organized molecular electronics symposia for the Fine Particle Society (1988), and the Bioelectrochemical Society (1992). He has served on the panels of several federal agencies on matter related to molecular electronics and nanotechnology research. He edited a symposium volume "Molecular Electronics: Biosensors and Biocomputers" (Plenum, 1989) and guest-edited a special issue on molecular electronics for the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Magazine (1994). He currently serves on the editorial board of the following journals: Advanced Materials for Optics and Electronics, Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Bioelectrochemistry and Bioenergetics, and BioSystems. He was recipient of the Victor K. LaMer Award (American Chemical Society, 1976). |
