Dear Science Student: The Department of Physiology is pleased to invite you to apply for our Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF). The purpose of the fellowship is threefold: to provide talented science students 1) research experience in physiology, 2) a look at life as a potential graduate student at Wayne State, and 3) a reasonable sum of money for three months of full time laboratory research. This year, up to five outstanding junior or senior undergraduates will be chosen for the fellowship. Each selected student will receive $3,000 for three months of summer research in a laboratory within the Department of Physiology. The program is open to all students who are not already enrolled in a graduate program, and is especially directed to juniors and seniors with a 3.0 or better GPA and an interest in any aspect of physiology. Awards will be made on the basis of academic achievement, experience, and commitment to basic research. I encourage you to apply if you meet the requirements. The application deadline each year is February 1. Interviews with the top applicants will begin February 15, and awards will be announced after March 31.
