George H. Yoo, M.D.
Associate Professor

Dr. George Yoo is a head and neck surgical oncologist and an Associate Professor and Vice-Chair in the department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery and Oncology at Wayne State University (WSU). Dr. Yoo is Chair of the head and neck tumor multi-disciplinary team and the Chair of the Cancer Committee at the Karmanos Cancer Institute (KCI).  He also is the Chair of the Surgery Committee in the Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG) and the Co-chair of the head and neck surgical subcommittee in SWOG. He completed his residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital (JHH) in 1995, and then completed a fellowship at JHH in 1996. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. Dr. Yoo’s current research interests include gene therapy and surgical adjuvant therapy for head and neck cancer.   

Undergraduate degree: B.S., Chemical Engineering, University of  Kansas, 1986.

Graduate degree:  M.D., University of Kansas Medical Center, 1990.

Residency: Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Johns Hopkins University, 1990-1995.

Fellowship: Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Johns Hopkins University, 1995-1996.

Clinical Interests: Head and Neck Surgical Oncology, Free flap reconstruction.

Research Interests: Molecular genetic markers, gene therapy.
