Grand Rounds

OBJECTIVES (as required by the CME Department of Wayne State University): After participating in this course (over two years) the participants will be able to:
1) Articulate the core knowledge for clinical otolaryngology.
2) Provide the rationale for treatment of patients with otolaryngological problems.

INTENDED AUDIENCE: Otolaryngology residents, medical students, and faculty as well as interested community otolaryngologists.

LOCATION: Plinn Morse Auditorium-4th Floor, Harper Hospital

Time: 7:30-9:30 AM, Wednesday

Head and Neck Oncology Conference

This conference is formatted with presentations of patients with head and neck cancer, review of pertinent imaging and pathology studies, followed by discussion of clinical treatment options. Occasionally there are guest lecturers.

LOCATION: Plinn Morse Auditorium-4th Floor, Harper Hospital.

Time: Wednesdays 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM

Craniofacial Trauma Conference

The conference is held on the third Monday of each month from 5:00-6:00 p.m.  Presentation of cases will rotate among the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery, Plastic Surgery and occasionally ophthalmology.

LOCATION: Crockett Auditorium, University Health Center.

Research Conference

The research seminar series are presentations by scientists investigating areas relevant to otolarygological research.

It is held once a month on Tuesdays 4:30 to 6:00 PM in 2 Webber conference room - Harper Hospital. As an organization accredited for continuing medical education, the Wayne State University School of Medicine designates this continuing medical education activity as meeting the criteria for Category I - 1.5 credit hour of the Physician's Recognition Award of the American Medical Association for each meeting established.

Pathology Course

The pathology course is designed for otolaryngologists and reviews basic principles of reading slides, as well as head and neck histopathology. The course is given every other year on the second Wednesday of the month in Pathology Conference Room No. 1. The course director is Wael Sakr, M.D., Department of Pathology.

Temporal Bone Dissection Course

This temporal bone dissection course is for residents at various levels of training. Full-time and Adjunct faculty provide a workshop with a presentation, demonstration and supervised dissection of the temporal bone anatomy. The schedule and location of the course is determined by the course director on a year to year basis.

Head and Neck Anatomy Course

This cadaver dissection exposure is available to first year residents via an Anatomy Course provided by the Anatomy Department of Wayne State University. The course usually takes place during the winter semester under the direction of Dr. N. Mizeres. Registration and fees are required.
