MedStart is an eight-year unique bachelor of science/medical degree program. It is a collaboration among Wayne State University's Honors Program, the School of Medicine, the Michigan Technological University (MTU) and Northern Michigan University (NMU).

This highly competitive program trains medical innovators and creative thinkers. MedStart nurtures the future leaders in medicine by treating MedStart freshmen as part of the medical community. The program emphasizes mentoring and research opportunities for each student and provides immediate contact with School of Medicine faculty and upperclassmen. MedStart undergraduates also are Honors Program students and expected to meet the requirements set forth by the Honors Program.

Fifteen positions will be awarded each year at Wayne State and two will be offered at both MTU and NMU. Freshmen are guaranteed admission to Wayne State's School of Medicine as long as continuation criteria are fulfilled. Students must be accepted at Wayne State or MTU or NMU. Those who attend Wayne State will receive four years of tuition.
