Associate Professor (Clinician-Educator) Speciality: Skull Base and Cerebrovascular Surgery Sub-Specialty Interests Surgery of cranial base tumors : Surgery of complex intracranial vascular lesions Craniofacial surgery Surgery for extracranial occlusive cerebrovascular disease Neuro-oncology Radiosurgery of intracranial lesions Advancing skull base surgery with the use of minimally invasive techniques Researching tumor biology of benign brain and spinal tumors Dr. Mark Hornyak was born in New England and is a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He trained in neurosurgery in New York, and has received fellowship training at the University of Utah to specialize in skull base and cerebrovascular neurosurgery.
As a neurosurgeon who specializes in the treatment of skull base tumors and vascular diseases of the brain, Dr. Hornyak’s main interests lie in the surgical and non-surgical treatment of skull base lesions. He uses advanced surgical techniques to offer the maximal treatment with a minimum of invasion. These techniques include the use of the surgical endoscope and approaches through the paranasal sinuses, as well as the use of stereotactic radiosurgery when appropriate. Dr. Hornyak applies these tools to a vast array of diseases, but his clinical interest lies in the treatment and research of benign skull base tumors such as meningioma, schwannoma, and pituitary adenoma.
