Endovascular Neurosurgery is a minimally invasive approach to the treatment of vascular diseases occurring in the brain and spinal cord. It is the preferred treatment for patients who cannot undergo open surgical procedures because of age or other medical conditions.

Endovascular therapy involves treating diseases from within the blood vessels while the patient is awake. Although it is a type of surgery, it is minimally invasive with most interventions occurring through an incision no larger than the tip of a pen. A small catheter is passed through the blood vessel using high-tech imaging equipment to reach the site of disease. A number of highly specialized procedures can be performed.

Balloon Angioplasty

Small catheter-mounted balloons are used to open severely narrowed arteries.

Aneurysm Embolization

Micro-coils made of wound platinum are fed through a small microcatheter in order to fill aneurysms or other blood vessel abnormalities.

Stents

Stents are flexible, cylindrical mesh tubes made of stainless steel or other alloys. Stents are used to keep blood vessels open. They are often used in conjunction with angioplasty in order to correct areas of severe narrowing.
