The Department of Neurology is part of the Detroit Medical Center
(DMC) and the Wayne State University School of Medicine (WSU-SOM),
one of the largest medical centers in the country. WSU is a leader
in biomedical research and is designated a Carnegie Foundation Research
I Institution, a designation given to the top 2.5% of American colleges
and universities. Many of our neurologists and neuroscientists are
recognized nationally and internationally as leaders in their respective
field. Most of our neurologists engage in clinical or basic research;
some do both. In addition, Neurology faculty participates in national
multi-center therapeutic clinical trials, treatments, and research.
The Division of Child Neurology, co-appointed in Pediatrics and Neurology,
and their affiliated practice group of pediatric neurologists, evaluate
children and engage in clinical and basic research, particularly in
epilepsy and neuromuscular diseases.
The Department of Neurology is actively involved in providing unexcelled
patient care and unifying clinical and basic science approaches to
neurotrauma research and treatment. We are dedicated in our practice
groups, our inpatient services, ambulatory clinics, basic and clinical
research efforts, and specialty clinics in multiple sclerosis, neuromuscular
diseases, stroke, epilepsy, movement disorders, neuro-oncology, neurogenetics,
and headache/pain. As neurologists and neuroscientists we are committed
to the delivery of high-quality patient care, research, and teaching.
Sincerely,
