I always wanted to be involved in medical research and so am delighted with the way good career moves have come up at the right time. My PhD was concerned with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, the most common adult leukaemia in the Western World. Now I am very excited to be learning about, and investigating the functions, of the central nervous system. Understanding of the life cycle of these special cell types will lead to considerable advances in management and treatment of illness caused by neural degeneration; thus improving the quality of life for many people.
