| Information for New Users
New users are asked to read the Acceptable Use of Information Technology Resources. These are the policies that guide computer usage at the School of Medicine.
Additional information for new users can be found by reading the New User Information Packet - viewable with Adobe Acrobat Reader.
SoM Accounts:
To log on to computers or gain access to any of the SoM resources you must have a SoM username and password. To request an account, go to the Account Request page. An account will only be created per verification from the department administrator for the requested department.
The standard SoM account package will include an email address that ends in @med.wayne.edu and a personal home directory which will automatically map to the H: drive letter when you log on to a SoM configured machine (network drives can be manually mapped on a PC or a Macintosh by following the directions from the following web site: http://kb.wayne.edu/index.php?category=81).
Which computers can I use?:
Medical Students can use any of the computers in the MDLabs of Scott Hall - if you are not a Med Student you will not have access to log on to the MDLab computers. Faculty and Staff typically get assigned a computer in their respective department for use on the SoM Network which is setup by the MSIS Helpdesk.
Faculty, Staff, or Medical Students with a SoM account can also log on to computers and print to network printers at Shiffman Medical Library. A Guest Account is available for use at Shiffman, but the account will not have access to print to a network printer.
How to log on to a SoM computer:
First, confirm that the computer is configured to log into the MED domain. This can usually be determined on Windows based systems by seeing if MED appears where it says "Log on to:".

The above screen shot is an example of a Windows XP computer that is configured to log on to the MED domain.
In the User Name field, you must enter your SoM login ID - a WSU Access ID will not allow you to log on to a computer that is part of the MED domain.
