Programs and Services

Newborn Hearing Care Program

We offer follow-up testing and care to all newborn infants who fail hearing screening at birth for the Oakwood Health Care System.  This includes hospitals in Taylor, Trenton and Dearborn.

Children and Youth Screening Program

The Lions Hearing Center provides free hearing screening for children in schools, Vista Nuevas Head Start Program, the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility, and at various health fairs.  Follow-up care and treatment is offered as well at our locations in the tri-county area, and for those families that have no insurance or ability to pay – care is provided at no charge.

Senior Outreach Program

We provide free hearing screening to any senior program, community center or living facility in the region.  Screenings are offered on location and at no cost to the program or senior citizen.  We also offer follow-up care at our clinics in Southfield, Bloomfield Hills and Dearborn.  Screenings are done by trained staff and volunteers.

Hearing Aid Assistance Program

For those individuals who qualify (no Insurance and within 200% of poverty income levels) we provide free hearing aids.  These new hearing aids are digital and programmable.  Hearing aids are available to persons living in Michigan, and are distributed through 17 participating locations around the state.  In addition, low-cost hearing aids are available to all individuals who do not qualify for this program.  A wide range of models are available.

Research

The Lions Hearing Center provides small grants to Wayne State faculty and residents that focus on hearing loss prevention and related disorders.

Education and Awareness

We provide a wide range of education to the general public and hearing care professionals on hearing health care through our website, health fairs, newsletters, conferences and workshops.
