At the Childrens Hospital of Michigan, ranked by
Child magazine as the 6th best children's hospital
in the nation, over 1,900 neurosurgical procedures
are performed each year, making it one of the busiest
hydrocephalus centers in the world. More effective
treatments for hydrocephalus rely on major
advancements in research. Thus, a critical
component of our program is the Michigan
Hydrocephalus Research Center, in which a
dedicated team of pediatric neurosurgeons
neuroscientists, nurses, child psychologists,
social workers, and especially patients and
their families, focuses on several key areas of
investigation. From engineering advancements
that will more effectively drain cerebrospinal fluid
from the brain, to the development of novel
supplements to protect the vulnerable brain or
promote the repair of damaged areas, this research
effort is aimed at improving the lives of hydrocephalic
children within their lifetime.
