OEM News

Dear Colleagues,

There are, as always, numerous activities going on in the Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. We have spelled out some in the following. The month of October is an important month to our Division, ACGME will rule on the status of our residency training program in Occupational and Environmental Medicine. We have been on probation but worked hard to present a strong case as we were being reviewed earlier this year. The residency can still be improved and we are working continuously on doing so in collaboration with our residents, the Residency Advisory Committee, the preceptors as well as WSU faculty.

Division Faculty will meet in October and during a retreat discuss the future focus of our Division. We will get back to you later to get your input. Meanwhile, should you have any ideas, don’t hesitate to contact me or anyone else in the Division.

We have also initiated a multidisciplinary group that is scoping research and academic clinical possibilities within the larger area of Return to Work Processes. The purpose is to review the current understanding of determinants that facilitate or delay return-to-work following injury and disease. The second purpose is to identify possible areas in which we can contribute to new and relevant knowledge to enhance the return-to-work process.

Collegial Regards,
Bengt B. Arnetz, MD, PhD
Professor of Occupational and Environmental Medicine
Division Director of OEM
