Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for consideration into the WSU/DMC OEM program, the
applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
1. Applicants must have graduated from a recognized school of medicine
or osteopathy
2. By the time an applicant enters the OEM program:
• The candidate must have completed, as a minimum (longer training is
preferred), a prerequisite clinical year in an ACGME-certified program
in the US or Puerto Rico as follows:
• One year of primary care training or a transitional year of training
in an ACGME-certified training program (US or Puerto Rico). Primary
care training has four specialties, including family medicine, internal
medicine, pediatrics and OB-GYN. Please note, this WSU OEM program
emphasizes clinical expertise as the foundation of OEM. We strongly
encourage potential applicants to complete a full residency in a primary
care field.
• Foreign graduates who have not already had the above U.S. clinical
training or who are in the U.S. with a J1 visa should not apply to
the program.
Applicants who meet the above criteria or have questions can contact
James N. Skupski, MD, MPH, Assistant Professor, Residency Director,
by phone, U.S mail, or e-mail, to request an application packet. All
application material must be completed in its entirety before a candidate
will be considered. All candidates will be interviewed in Detroit
at our Detroit Medical Center location.
