About Family Medicine:

The specialty of Family Medicine is centered on lasting, caring relationships with patients and their families. Family physicians are patient-centered and integrate the biological, clinical, and behavioral sciences to provide continuing and comprehensive health care. The scope of practice encompasses all ages, both sexes, each organ system, every disease entity, and every location of practice including hospital practice. Wayne State University family physicians evaluate their patients' needs, taking into account family, social, ethical, and environmental considerations. They are dedicated to the prevention and resolution or stabilization of health problems to improve people's lives.

Services Available:

• University Family Physicians' board-certified family physicians offer a full range of medical for the entire family, including:
• Obstetrics/gynecology;
• Pediatrics;
• Sports medicine;
• Geriatrics
• Minor surgery;
• Wellness care including the full range of preventive and diagnostic testing for cancer and other potentially preventable diseases.


Additionally, our board-certified Occupational and Environmental Health specialists provide a wide range of practical solutions to the health and safety concerns to the community at large. Occupational medicine is the specialty devoted to the recognition, prevention, and clinical management of illnesses and injuries arising either directly or indirectly from work. Our Occupational and Environmental Health consultant group also focuses on identifying, preventing, and treating medical conditions arising from hazardous environmental exposures at home and elsewhere outside of the workplace. They have a special focus on stress medicine: how to diagnose, treat, and prevent stress-related disorders.
