Welcome to the Department of Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences

Welcome to the virtual site of the Wayne State University Department of Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences (DFMPHS). Within the past several years, the DFMPHS has effectively transitioned from a primarily clinically-oriented teaching department to a department focused on teaching and research informed and enhanced by our clinical activities. This has been facilitated by a strategic planning process initiated in 2001. The process has been inclusive, involving all departmental faculty and academic administrators. The result is a plan that guides our ongoing academic activities and assures their consistency with the DFMPHS’s mission and the strategic directions of Wayne State University and the School of Medicine. DFMPHS faculty have embraced our new direction and have been instrumental in its success such that the department was recently recognized as one of the top 20 Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences departments nationally in scholarly productivity.
