GUIDELINES FOR CLINICAL PROFESSOR EMERITUS

Clinical Professor Emeritus is an honorary rank conferred on voluntary faculty members who meet the following minimum requirements:

  • strong support from department chair and promotion & tenure committee
  • rank of Clinical Professor at the time of retirement
  • evidence of local, state and national reputation
  • 25 or more years of documented, continued excellent teaching, the last 10 years of which have been at Wayne State University School of Medicine
  • evidence of scholarly activity
  • evidence of community service and support of School of Medicine goals.

Upon retirement, clinical faculty who, through long years of service, have substantially contributed to the mission of the School of Medicine, but who otherwise may not qualify for Emeritus status, can be awarded the official designation as Clinical Professor (retired), Clinical Associate Professor (retired) or Clinical Assistant Professor (retired).
