Emergency Medicine Residency Retreat

Each July, we hold an overnight residency retreat at an off-campus site, which, by the way, is a camp site. All new incoming (EM-1) residents and senior level (EM-3) residents attend, along with faculty representing the residency leadership from the program. Our goal is to promote the “team” concept amongst the residents. The EM-1 residents will develop a class mission statement to help guide their three years of residency training, and plan a community outreach activity. Interactive learning sessions are devoted to an initial exposure to some of the physician core competencies, including professionalism, systems-based practice, and communication and interpersonal skills, including breaking bad news and death-telling. Highlights of the retreat include a physical Challenge Course (~ 3 hours), “play time” allowing for volley ball, tennis, Frisbee, canoeing, or simply enjoying the out of doors. Excellent meals are included, and the accommodations are first rate. You will leave the retreat feeling and knowing that you are an important part of the residency team.
