Early Ischemia--the dense middle cerebral artery sign

Axial images demonstrate increased linear attenuation within the M1 segment of the left middle cerebral artery. Higher scans show very subtle decrease in attenuation of the left lentiform nucleus and head of the caudate in comparison to the right.

Follow up CT scan 24 hours after initial study demonstrates hemorrhagic infarct in the left basal ganglia region.
