Shearing Injuries

There is a focal high attenuation abnormality in the white matter adjacent to the frontal horn of the left lateral ventricle.

Shearing injuries comprise nearly half of all primary intraaxial traumatic brain lesions. They are caused by sudden acceleration/deceleration or rotational forces.

They are most commonly located in the lobar white matter, frontotemporal region, especially at the grey-white interface.

Initial CT scans are often normal. Therefore, delayed scans may be required for detection.
