Professional and Faculty Appointments:
Assistant Professor (Research), Dept. of Pediatrics, WSU School of Medicine

Major Research Interests:
The therapeutic potential and vulnerability of human stem cells; developmental models of neural disorders.

Current Research:
There is a dearth of information concerning the effects of commonly abused substances on the stem cell populations associated with the developing fetus. The blood supply is formed by hematopoietic and mesenchymal stem cells, both of which can be isolated from umbilical cord blood obtained after Caesarian delivery of full-term pregnancies. Such studies have implications for the gestational and future health of the growing child, as well as the viability of related stem cell populations.
