• CHM is one of several centers participating in studies
of children with three different types of congenital cardiac malformations.
CHM data will be combined with information from many children treated
at collaborating sites to provide critical information about the best
surgical treatment for these serious childhood heart conditions.
• The cardiac diagnoses currently being studied include tricuspid
atresia, serious left ventricular outflow tract obstruction and children
who, in the course of their previous cardiac surgeries, have had right
ventricular-to-pulmonary artery conduits placed.
• These data are critical to inform pediatric cardiovascular
surgeons, cardiologists, pediatricians, and families about the outcomes
of various surgical and medical treatments for children who are born
with certain forms of congenital heart disease.
• PI at WSU is Dr. Henry Walters and the coordinator is Dr.
Constantine Ionan.
• The mission of the CCISC is to design, conduct
and report the findings of scientific studies
in interventional cardiovascular care for
individuals with congenital heart disease.
• The consortium exists to advance the science
and practice of congenital interventional
cardiology for the benefit of its participants and their
patients.
• Wayne State University has developed the database
for this project and is the coordinating
center.
• PI at WSU is Thomas Forbes, M.D. from the Division
of Cardiology.
