About Us

The BSO’s purpose as defined by the Student Senate Bylaws (Robert’s Rules of Order current addition):

Article III:  Membership (in Student Senate)

                 Section 1:  Classification of Membership

                  D.      BSO Representative:  Elected by BSO, only one BSO member will be allowed          to vote at Senate meetings and will be required to fulfill all Senate obligations (e.g.          attendance requirements, membership on 2 subcommittees, Telefund, etc.).  All          issues regarding ethnic week and the organization/procedure of BSO will be up to          their own discretion.

 

Article VI:  Duties and Responsibilities of Officers

                 Section 6:  Board of Student Organization Representative

               Duties and responsibilities of the BSO rep. shall include, but are not limited to:

A.      Acting as liaison between Senate and the student organizations of WSU SOM.

B.       Responsible for the joint activities of the Senate and the Office of Student Affairs of WSU SOM (i.e. Ethnic, Primary Care, and Violence Awareness Weeks).

C.       Assuming other duties as deemed necessary by the Student Organizations and Student Senate.

List of Duties:

                

                 1.  Updating the BSO Bulletin Board and Website with pertinent information for student                  organizations including but not limited to: requirements for active status, requirements for                  annual budget, procedures for proctoring funding from the Student Senate, procedure for                  creating a new organization.

                

                 2.  Maintaining a database with the leadership membership lists, constitution/purpose                  statement, annual event/activity calendar, and other pertinent identifying information of all                  student groups.

                

                 3.  Serving as a student component in the awarding of annual budgets in conjunction with the                  Office of Student Affairs.

                

4.  Coordinating the Student Organization Parties during Orientation Week for Year I medical students in a manner that is appropriate and fair.  Also ensuring that these events are held at a diverse set of venues.  As a branch of the Student Senate, the Student Senate has primacy of selecting a preferred night (usually the Monday night of Orientation) after which an explicitly stated process is used to award the remaining nights.  It is the BSO’s duty to ensure that all prospective interested student organizations are notified of the selection process before said process begins.

 

5.  Organize the Student Organizations Fair held at the end of Orientation Week.

 

6.  Promote inter-group cooperation including but not limited to Ethnic, Primary Care, and Violence Awareness Weeks.

 

7.  Sit on the Executive Student Senate Board with voting privileges as a representative of the interests of student organizations as a whole.

 

8.  Monitor the creation of new student organizations.

 

9.  Enforce that current organizations are complying with the criteria for active status (as defined by the Student Senate Bylaws)

 

10.  Serve as a liaison for the student organizations, student senate, and main campus.

 

11.  Fulfilling requirements to maintain active voting privileges in the Student Senate (as listed in the Student Senate Bylaws)

 

12.  Assuming other duties as deemed necessary by the Student Organizations and Student Senate.
