Text Box: “Aiming to improve the quality, quantity, and counseling of all minority medical and premedical students.”

A letter from the President…

It is 2009, and the lack of healthcare and healthcare providers are rising at a projector; rising so fast that political officials, experts and others are all doing their best to remedy the chaos.  However, the depths are continuing to grow exponentially.    No one organization can solve this problem; however, they can keep a steadfast devotion to helping as they see fit.  It is with these thoughts in mind and great honor that I share my passion, in the capacity of President, with an organization that has always strived to make a difference in whatever issues shall arise.  In fact, since 1964, the Black Medical Association has played one of the most active roles in the school of medicine, specifically targeting the minority community.

This year, we will continue to vigorously support the educational goals of our members through our educational committee, monthly meetings geared toward matriculating students and the big sib/little sib program. We will celebrate our culture throughout the year with programs such as the Black History Month Program and Kwanzaa Celebration. We will also give back to our community through various programs including: MAPS, Reach Out to Youth and the S.A.Y Clinic.  We believe that this will embody the purposes of improving the quality, quantity and counseling of Black medical and premedical students at the Wayne State University School of Medicine primarily, as well as in the surrounding community.  In addition, increase and maintain the number of minority medical students graduating from Wayne State University School of Medicine.  In turn, we can make a difference in the aforementioned chaos.

We sincerely hope that if your passion parallels those of our organization, you will take the time to research our website as well as reach out to us as we will love to do the same.

Sincerely,

Carla Bryant
