Welcome to the Black Medical Association of Wayne State University, a local chapter of the Student National Medical Association. We are an organization, which was founded in 1969 and has grown exponentially since! It is our aim to support the matriculation and graduation of minority medical students. We hope you will explore the various committees and activities that we detail here and consider joining us in some of them!

Black Medical Association is one of the most active student led organizations at Wayne State University. We vigorously support the educational goals of our members through our educational committee as well as our tutors and big sib/little sib program. We celebrate our culture throughout the year with programs such as Black History Month Program, Kwanzaa Celebration and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration. We also give back to our community through various programs including: The Pulse Enrichment Academy, Reach Out to Youth, Each One Teach One, the HUDA Clinic, and Bone Marrow Drive.

We foster relationships in the BMA that will last a lifetime, not only with your fellow classmates but also current physicians. BMA/SNMA members receive a free membership to the Detroit Medical Society throughout their tenure in medical school. This membership allows you to network with leading physicians in the Detroit area every month at one of their sponsored dinner meetings!

We encourage our members to get involved on regional and national levels of Student National Medical Association by attending the Regional Picnic and attending the annual national conference, where you can meet and network with some of the over 8,000 members of SNMA.

We have a proud tradition of service and excellence in our chapter of the Student National Medical Association. We produce physicians who are leaders in the community and who are both passionate and compassionate.

We thank you for visiting us today and look forward to seeing you at our next event!

Sincerely,

Candace N. Johnson
